Wangeci Kanjama from M-Pesa Africa joins the list of ROCCO IOO 2022 judges

With 6 weeks to go until the end of the ROCCO IOO voting phase, ROCCO is pleased to announce Wangeci Kanjama, the number one person in ROCCO IOO 2020, as one of the judges of the 2022 edition.

Wangeci Kanjama, Finance Director at M-Pesa Africa, was recognised as the number one ranking person in the ROCCO IOO 2020. With an academic background in finance and commerce, Wangeci started her career in Kenya going into the stock market. Looking for new challenges, she joined Safaricom in the early 2000s as an accountant in charge of Tax. While developing her great potential, she moved to Business planning at Safaricom Plc and contributed to various key mergers and acquisitions including the pivotal launch of 3G, Enterprise and Mpesa.

Wangeci began her journey into Wholesale playing a role in the construction of a fibre cable installed in East Africa. After this, she started working on roaming as it was a part of the business that needed attention and focus. Helping with the growth of Safaricom’s wholesale business with an annual turnover of over U$60m and spearheading growth within the region she transformed the way the Wholesale business was run Internally and perceived by the Industry.

Taking over the Finance Director role at M-Pesa Africa with 50m users In Africa, Wangeci is currently looking for new ways to optimise and develop the African market from fintech perspective. She has a problem-solving mindset and a drive to face challenges with resilience and creativity. Listening to others, being patient and always keep learning are key values that have helped Wangeci thorough her career.

Her passion for telecoms and the digital ecosystem, combined with her ability to inspire others and create change, make Wangeci a perfect fit to be a ROCCO IOO 2022 judge. Having experienced the repercussion of being in the top 25 of the list herself, Wangeci has a great understanding of the responsibilities that come with being an influential person in the ROCCO IOO.
